LOW MAINTENANCE LAWN CARE
Low Maintenance Lawn Care
Once your Pearl's Premium lawn is well-established, maintaining it is simple. By following these low-maintenance lawn care steps, you’ll enjoy a lush, green, and sustainable lawn while saving time, money, and effort.
Simplified Lawn Care Guide
✅ Mow High & Less Often – Keep grass at least 3 inches high, ideally mowing once every 3-4 weeks with a sharp blade.
✅ Leave Grass Clippings – Use a mulching mower to return nutrients back to the soil naturally.
✅ Use Organic Fertilizer or Compost – Apply an organic fertilizer in spring and fall or top-dress with ¼ inch of compost annually to promote soil health.
✅ Aerate for Soil Health – Aerate once a year (preferably in spring) to introduce oxygen into the soil, reduce compaction, and encourage strong root growth.
✅ Avoid Watering After Establishment – Encouraging deep root growth reduces the need for irrigation and makes your lawn more drought-resistant.
Detailed Lawn Care Instructions for the Ultimate Green Lawn
1. Surface Rake for a Fresh Start
In spring, gently rake the surface only to clear thatch, clippings, and stones. Avoid deep de-thatching to prevent weed seeds from surfacing.
2. Balance Soil pH with Lime
Test soil and apply pellet lime (40 lbs per 1,000 sq ft) if needed to bring the pH between 6-7. This creates optimal conditions for grass growth while discouraging weeds.
3. Core Aerate to Loosen Soil & Promote Growth
- Use a core aerator (not a spike aerator) to punch holes into the soil and improve air, water, and nutrient absorption.
- Aerate once per year or twice for compacted/clay soil.
- The best time to aerate is after a rain or light watering.
4. Apply Organic Compost or Fertilizer
- Spread ¼ inch of organic compost annually or use organic fertilizer in spring and fall to nourish the soil.
- Compost is a natural weed deterrent and improves overall soil health.
5. Water Wisely – or Not at All
- Established Pearl’s Premium lawns require little to no watering.
- In hotter climates, water deeply once a week during extreme heat.
- Avoid watering in the evening to prevent fungal disease.
6. Mowing Tips for a Healthy Lawn
- Always mow with a sharp blade to prevent tearing grass blades.
- Mow once a month or less (cut back to 2 inches in late fall for easier leaf cleanup).
- If left uncut, Pearl’s Premium will create a soft, 4-inch meadow-like lawn.
7. Overseed for Thicker Grass
- Each spring or fall, cut the grass back to 1 inch tall, rake away clippings, and overseed at 8 lbs per 1,000 sq ft.
- Water for one month to encourage dense growth and help shade out weeds.
8. Organic Weed Control
- The best defense against weeds is a thick, healthy lawn.
- Early spring: Apply corn gluten to suppress weed germination.
- Fall: Deep rake or de-thatch to remove unwanted growth and prevent weed establishment.
- For persistent weeds, hand-pulling and aeration help naturally eliminate them.
